Acknowledgements
I would like to give my heartfelt thanks to all the injured workers for their bravery, friendliness and generosity on sharing their inmost thinking and experiences. Their unforgettable life stories are an unfailing support to me for the accomplishment of this study. It is my good fortune to meet them, whatever their voices, smiles, tears truly give me a vivid lesson about life.
I am sincerely grateful for my teachers whom I am greatly indebted. I have been kindly instructed by Pun Ngai, she fostered me to explore the study and the concern on Chinese migrant workers in China. Also thank you to Luk Tak Chuan, Fred Chiu, YC Chen, Leung Chi Yuen, Ren Yan, Lai Yuen Mei for their keenly advises on comprehending the pains of workers. Every time when I was at the standstill, they guided me through the difficulties.
I also wish to acknowledge my fellows: Jason Wong, Parry Leung, Alice Yeung, Stephanie Kent, Kitty Chiu, Lau Ka Lei, Samson Chow, Rachel Wong, Jenny Chan, Lin Thung Hong and Cheng Jin Hua for their endless supports and precious encouragements over the research study.
Especially I would like to show my gratitude to Zoe Juo, Holly Liu, Brenda Ngan, Tramy Chan, Fanny Liu, Candy Chan, Bonnie Cheng, Adele Chan and Kenny Ko whom always stand by me to share my ups and downs. When I was dejected from the disappointing progress of the study, they provided me unceasing consolations.
In addition, this study was made possible through the thesis research travel grant of the School of Humanities and Social Science at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Last but not least, I deeply appreciate my family, my grandma, mum, brother and sister for their thoughtful concerns and tolerance; the teaching of my beloved dad enables me to understand the thinking and needs of the injured workers; and my dearest lover, Tim Chu, his love has accompanied me to undergo the trials.
